Love Lives On
We Do hard things. On October 8, 2023, I will be participating in the Chicago Marathon to honor Damon’s memory , and in support of the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS). TAPS provides direct support to families who have been impacted by a death in the military regardless of geography or circumstance.
The funds I raise will flow directly into TAPS programming which supports these families through an amazing network of resources, seminars and publications. TAPS provides these services at no charge to survivors from all branches of the service, including Reserves and National Guard. TAPS’ programs and services are available not only for immediate family, but also for extended family and friends.
The journey to Chicago hasn’t been without pitfalls, and I confess, my race won’t be pretty… I’m still suffering from post concussion syndrome from a TBI last fall. But Damon and his fellow soldiers didn’t take the easy road either. And with that in mind, I’m planning to do hard things. I have faith that I can finish. It may take a long time, but I plan to carry his memory across the finish line, and to ensure that he continues to live through others, and that his name is still heard.
I am so grateful that TAPS has been here for me, providing not only support, but a network of understanding people who helped me through one of the most trying periods of my life. They are part of the reason that I’ve made it through whole. I appreciate your support of not only me, but of TAPS and their mission.
Thank you!
